Stag Weekends Abroad Including Flights Vs Booking Your Own Flights

Plane landing in sunset
So you have made that decision to flee Blighty for a stag do abroad, but wait - you're going to need flights!

Most popular stag destinations abroad are served well, by low cost airlines including Ryanair, Easyjet, Wizz Air, Jet 2, Flybe and many, many more.

So do you book your stag do abroad including flights or do you book your flights separately?

Booking Flights Separately

This will save you money, no company will book your flights without charging a fee, as there is quite a lot of work involved, on that note, what is involved?

Before you book

  • You will need to search the skies and find out routes and airlines, a website we find helpful is Skyscanner
  • You will need to pay upfront, the whole amount (low cost airlines don't refund for drop outs so don't pay for anyone you don't know or trust)
  • You will also need everyone's name spelt correctly (first & surname)**

Before you fly

To check people in online (which you will have to do unless you pay more for airport check-in*) you will then need every member's passport details which is also known as API (Advanced Passenger Information), these details are:
API = Advanced Passenger Information
  • First, middle and surnames
  • Passport number
  • Passpot expiry date
  • Passport issue date
  • Passport country of issue
  • Nationality
  • Some airlines may need your country of residence
  • A printer to print off everyone's boarding passes
*Some low cost airlines now only allow online check-in and this seems to be the way most airlines are going.

When booking flights these days watch out for the extra charges such as luggage, choice of seats, credit card charges, airport check-in etc.

Stag Weekends With Flights Included

First and foremost, only book with an ATOL bonded company, that way if something happens to that company your money is safe.

No doubt booking flight inclusive packages will save you time, stress and worry. However, you will have to pay more, as you are paying for a service.

All you have is a one off per person cost to get off the lads and you're away.

You will still need to email over the stag organiser a list of names. **

Once booked, at DesignaVenture for most low cost airlines we send you over a form to fill in for your passport details (API) so we can check you in online.

You will also find most stag weekends that include flights also include airport transfers and a female guide who will meet you at the airport and answer any questions you may have about your chosen destination.

So it's a toss up between paying more for the convenience of having all that messy airline business taken care of or save some money and DIY.

My advice is to get both prices in and make a decision.***

**Don't guess the names! The name on the ticket must match the name on the passport, abbreviations and nicknames are not allowed (Steve instead of Steven - Muncher instead of Brian).

***If you are not good on the internet and it's left to you to book the stag do, go for the stag weekend that includes flights. If you have a small group, you can use a computer and budget is tight, book the non inclusive flight package and then book your own flights.
