5 Alternative Stag Do Ideas

Your Groom isn't really the clubbing type, he loves to walk / cycle / cars / canoe... nothing too strenuous, so he'll want a stag do to reflect this.

Well lucky for you, you've stumbled across this post where we've put together 5 Alternative Stag Do Ideas which are right up your groom's walking track.

Right, let's get started...

HIKE

Image of Snowdonia Mountian

Destination: Snowdonia

Your goal is to get to the top of Snowdonia. There are easy-ish paths to extreme paths where I expect you'll need a guide and climbing equipment.

Just remember Snowdonia is 1km above sea level and the weather can change on a spin of a coin, so remember to be prepared for winter even if your hiking in the summer.

At the very top of Snowdonia is a Cafe which is replenished by the train which travels to the very top every day, so if you want to go up the easy way and hike down, you can, well you are on a stag do!

CYCLE

House of Parliament and Brightons beach

Destination: London to Paris, Bristol to Bath or London to Brighton

You don't have to go to extreme however, if you want something to look back on and remember with pride, then maybe an extreme bike ride would be just the ticket:

Extreme - London Eye To Notre Dame (247 miles)
From the London Eye all the way through beautiful towns, villages and countryside, on both sides of the Channel to Notre Dame in Paris.

Remember to pack your passport, Euros and as little as possible, you don't want a heavy ruc-sac or saddle bags!

Alternatively there's 'doing your bit for charity' and I'm not talking about the girl from Emmerdale Farm!:

Moderate - London to Brighton (54 miles)
Sign up as a team, there is a minimum sponsorship requirement, plus it will cost you £40pp (2018 prices) to enter.

One of the biggest and Europe's oldest sponsored cycle rides, which sees people lined streets cheering you on, free water stops, traffic free and road closed sections and an after event party. This will be gruelling but also exciting and fulfilling.

Or, go for a proper stag do jolly:

Easy - Bristol to Bath (13 miles)
Take in pubs and cycle along a beautiful part of Southwest England on mainly paths for walkers and bikes, hardly any of this cycle route will you share with vehicles.

You could always make a weekend of it and stay Friday night in Bath cycle to Bristol on the Saturday, stay one night in Bristol and then cycle back to Bath on the Sunday, or the other way round!

CANOEING & CAMPING HEREFORDSHIRE

Canoeing and Camping

Destination: Herefordshire

Possibly one the of the most chilled out weekends you can have, who says stag dos need to be full-on and crazy!?

Pitch up your tent at a campsite (which has a shower and toilet block and is next to an incredible pub) on your first night, let's call it Friday night.

Then on Saturday morning your canoeing instructor (don't worry, he will only be with you for the first hour) will pick you up and take you up river to your starting point.

Your stag group will be allocated with boats, paddles, buoyancy aids and water tight barrels (to store the stuff you don't want getting wet like phones, money etc.). He will also give you maps and some instruction on how to paddle your Canadian Canoes and where to meet on the Sunday - you are then on your own.

Your first day, is to canoe from your start point to your campsite, which should take you between 3 - 6 hours depending on if you stop at a couple of pubs on the way down.

Then, on the Sunday morning you carry on canoeing down river to your meeting point, where you'll call your instructor who will come and pick you up and take you back to your tent - again this should take 3 - 6 hours depending on how long you take.

I have done this weekend and it's a brilliant and a very alternative stag do, on the Saturday night we sat in the beer garden of the pub next door to our campsite had a massive meal, a few beers and put the world to right, fantastic.

PUB WALKS

A round of Guinness

Destination: All over the UK

A Pub can make a great goal when walking, alternatively a couple of pubs can make a great countryside pub crawl, not all pub crawls have to be in city centres.

Get yourself to Google and type in your stag do destination and then pub walks and 'hey presto' you will find some great ones.

Alternatively you can type in Pub Walks into Google and then pick your stag destination.

TOP GEAR STYLE CHALLENGE

Under a motorway flyover

Destination: You decide

I read in the paper the other day that this guy from Bristol bought a Honda Civic, tax and insured it (it was already MOT'd until September) and including petrol drove to London and back from Bristol and it still worked out cheaper than the train!

So, split your stag party into groups and set a challenge, here are a couple to get you started, however if you put your minds together, you will probably come up with better ones...

Economy
Challenge: Buy yourself a Saloon Car, modify it with paint jobs, stickers, fur, whatever you can find.

Before you set off you must ask the bride or someone neutral, to score the cars from best to worst. If there are 5 cars, then the best looking car will get 5 points, the second best 4 points and so on.

You then have to get to John O Groats or Lands End (whichever is furthest away) as cheaply as possible, the cost of there journey should also include the price you paid for the car, modifications and petrol. You should also include the cost of the car's insurance, tax and MOT. Again points are rewarded, so if you have got there the cheapest, you get 5 points.

I would recommend that the whole group stick together and walk talkies are a must, for banter obvs! A designated overnight stop should also be on the agenda, make sure if you're driving in the morning not to drink too much the night before.

Europe
Challenge: Set a budget and buy the best car you can get - your aim is simple, get to Cannes on the South of France mediterranean coast first.

Pack the Redbull, no speeding, no motor-rail and certainly no drinking and driving. Swap drivers as much as possible and party in Cannes before driving back to Blighty.

Tip: Keep the cars and have them on show at the Wedding, what a great talking point!

Whatever you do, it's easy, keep within the law.

Good luck

M.
