How To Keep The Price Down On Your Stag Do

Things can get out of hand when arranging a stag weekend, sometimes the best man will only be thinking about booking the best stag do his best mate deserves, however, when having such a single track thought process, this can mean eliminating friends and family who can't afford seven weeks in Thailand!

OK, so I exaggerated a little on seven weeks however, pricing people out of stag do is a known issue and happens quite a lot, so I have put together some ideas and tips on keeping the price down.

First and foremost you need to COMMUNICATE, speak to members of the group to make sure the price is within budget, especially the main people the stag wants to attend.

It's no easy feat hitting the sweet spot on arranging the perfect stag do, especially when it comes down to budget, expectations and quality control, my heart goes out to you but if you need to get the price down, hopefully the following information will help.

Flights / Travel
  • Consider an indirect flight, it may add an hour or two to the journey but it could save you big money.
  • Travel a day before, most flight prices are higher going out on a Friday and coming back on a Sunday, you could save more than an extra night in the hotel if you travel out on a Thursday or comeback on a Monday or both!
  • When booking flights some weekends can be more expensive than others, try to be fluid on dates until you book it, as this could save you big money.
  • Book your flights early, the closer you get to the departure date usually means the more expensive the flight will be, not the other way round.
  • Use a flight price comparison website such as skyscanner.net, cheapflights.co.uk or similar
  • If your stag do is in the UK, check out minibus prices to and from your hotel, just remember to base the price on the confirmed number of people, not the number of people invited.
  • Share cars, get as many people in each car - this will need good communication, so set up a WhatsApp group or an email round robin.
  • If you decide to travel by train, book the tickets early, this will save you big bucks as train fares are generally more expensive the closer you get to the date of travel.
  • Fill your car up at a Supermarket petrol station before you go, service stations on the motorway are an absolute rip off.

Accommodation
  • If you've booked a hotel swap twins to triples and quads where possible, avoid single room supplements even if it means a little bed sharing.
  • Swap a hotel to a quality hostel with your own private dorms, there are lots of clean and comfortable group hotels out there, we deal with loads.
  • A high percentage of stag groups don't make breakfast, see if there is a reduction for room only prices.
  • Don't book a hotel which is 4 miles out of town if your saving is less than a taxi ride - beware of false economy
  • Camp, especially in the Summer, this could be loads of fun, but it's not everyones cup of tea!

Activities
  • Swap motorised activities to cheaper activities such as Bubble Football, Footgolf, Archery, Axe Throwing or Paintball - these activities are usually much cheaper as you don't have to pay for petrol and the maintenance of an engine etc.
  • Make sure you arrange transfers to your activities prior to getting there, as taxis can be extremely costly and a bore to wait for.

Nightlife
  • Pre book bar passes, as this will save you having to pay to get into bars on busy nights
  • Pre book nightclub tickets as on the night, prices can be triple on the door
  • You should always eat something, so make sure if you're wanting to save money have a MacDonalds, KFC or Kebab Shop stop en-route rather than booking a restaurant where the drinks will be expensive.

Whatever you get up to, have a good one and if DesignaVenture can help you with your stag do, just ask!

Good luck
