Should I Be Thinking of the Environment When Planning My Stag Do?

Plane taking off with the text about 50% of young male flights are stag dos

Are your carbon emissions a factor when organising your stag do?

Over the years the stag do trend has always been 'the bigger the better' - however even though this might be a one off for you, in 2019 50% of flights taken by 20 - 45 year old men were stag dos going abroad.

It's not just stag parties choosing abroad for their stag weekends, hen parties are also getting on flights with a massive 35% of flights taken by 20 - 45 year old ladies, were hen parties going abroad.

So what are the environmental companies saying stag and hen parties should be doing?

They are saying in order to cut carbon emissions stag and hen parties should be choosing the UK instead of going abroad.

Well first of all here are some interesting facts:

  1. If you chose Manchester for your stag weekend instead of Las Vegas and you were all travelling from London, not taking that flight is like going Vegan for 1½ Years!
  2. Choosing Newquay instead of flying* to Amsterdam is like not driving for 1½ weeks!

*From June you can now go direct by train from London to Amsterdam with Eurostar saving you  90% in carbon emissions compared to flying.

If this generation doesn't think it's that important the next generation of brides and grooms will, unless airlines can really cut emissions.

We spoke to some of our customers who booked abroad stag dos and they advised us that; they are only planning on getting married once and as low cost airlines were so easy and cheap to book, it was a no brainer to go abroad - YOLO came up quite a lot.

However, other stag and hen parties who chose the UK for their hen and stag weekends were extremely positive, giving us the following benefits of having their hen or stag dos in the UK:

  • You don't have to spend a lot of time travelling
  • There are lots of brilliant cities in the UK with incredible nightlife
  • Loads of fantastic activities on offer in the UK
  • The cost is significantly lower than going abroad.

It's a decision you are going to have to make, obviously. However I will leave you with one thing.

Booking a stag weekend in the UK isn't a downgrade compared to going abroad. The UK has some of the best cities to party in such as Liverpool, Edinburgh, Bristol and Cardiff and if you're looking for full on activities, there's no better place in the world geared up for stag activities - day and night!

If you do choose abroad, travel broadens the mind, you'll do some real growing up in the back streets of Europe, so you decide!

Whatever you get up to, have a good one!
